Prof. Dominic Kwaku Danso Mensah
Professor Dominic Kwaku Danso Mensah is a Professor of Educational Administration and Management with about Fifteen (15) years of experience in higher education leadership, governance, research, and mentorship. He was appointed the Principal of the College of Languages Education, UEW, Ajumako Campus in October 2020.
In 2007, Prof Mensah obtained his Doctor of Philosophy degree in Education with specialisation in Educational Administration and Management from the University of East Anglia in Norwich, UK. Before his doctoral studies, he obtained a Master of Philosophy Degree in Basic Education, a Bachelor of Education (Hons) in Psychology, and a Diploma in French Language all from the University of Cape Coast.
Prof. Mensah started his academic career in 2001 as a Demonstrator and a Principal Research Assistant at the University of Cape Coast. He took an appointment as a faculty member in the Department of Basic Education at the University of Education, Winneba in 2009. He has garnered extensive academic and administrative experience serving as Post Graduate Coordinator; Head of Department for Department of Educational Administration and Management; Vice Dean of Student Affairs; briefly acting as Dean of Students Affairs; and Founding Director at the Institute of Teacher Education and Continuous Professional Development (ITECPD) at the University of Education, Winneba. Prior to his appointment as the Principal of the College of Languages Education, Prof. Mensah was the Director of ITECPD where he provided leadership for expansion of academic departments, research quality, and infrastructural development. As the Director of ITECPD, Prof Dominic coordinated the activities of fifteen (15) Colleges of Education in Ghana affiliated with University of Education, Winneba.
Prof. Mensah has made significant contributions to academia. He has widely published peer-reviewed articles in the area of educational administration, and educational leadership and management in both local and international journals. He has over 50 scholarly publications to his credit, including a book on research and technical reports, and facilitated and presented at several local and international conferences. He has mentored and assessed postgraduate students from several universities including University of Cape Coast and University of Ghana, and supervised over three hundred (300) Master of Education and Master of Philosophy theses, as well as Ph.Ds in the area of Educational Leadership. He served as the Editor-in-Chief for Ghana Journal of Education and Teaching (GHAJET) and International Journal of Basic Education (IJOBED) between 2012 and 2014, and 2009 and 2014 respectively. Prof. Mensah has assessed several scholars for promotion to ranks in academia from lecturers to professors from various universities, including University of Ghana, University of Cape Coast, and Akenten Appiah -Menka University of Skills Training and Entrepreneurial Development.
His leadership extends beyond academia. He has provided strategic leadership to numerous statutory and national bodies and committees. Currently, he is the Chairman of the Governing Council for Foso College of Education. He was also a Council Member at Ola College of Education, and Entrepreneurship Training Institute. Between 2010 and 2015, he consulted for the Nursing and Midwifery Council (Ministry of Health, Ghana). Between 2011 and 2020, he served as a panel member for National Accreditation Board, quality-assuring the activities of University of Ghana, University of Cape Coast, University of Development Studies, Catholic University, Methodist University, Valley View University, Christ Apostolic University, and others. His membership in professional societies highlight his commitment to continuous professional development. He is a member of British Educational Leadership Management and Administration Society (BELMAS) and have gained multi-cultural experience working in the United Kingdom. He was also a member of the National Implementation Support Team (NIST), and the Curriculum Implementation Support Team (CIST).
Prof. Mensah's personal life reflects his dedication and values, being married with six children, all of whom are pursuing or have pursued higher education in various fields, showcasing his commitment to education and family values.
